Springwell School supports children with a range of learning difficulties - a setting that places very particular demands on its environment. Communal spaces need to be calm, well maintained and welcoming. But they also need to be genuinely robust: surfaces must withstand intensive daily use, the occasional mark or scuff, and the kind of wear that standard emulsion simply would not survive.
Working with the school, the team developed a decorating specification for walls, ceilings and woodwork throughout the communal areas - one that balanced the right aesthetic with the practical resilience the setting required.
High-durability decorating for a specialist learning environment

Standard decorating products are not suited to environments like Springwell. The school needed a finish that could handle repeated cleaning, resist marking, and allow surfaces to be wiped down or touched up without showing the work. That ruled out conventional matt emulsions and led to the specification of acrylic eggshell throughout - a harder-wearing, washable finish that holds up in high-contact environments without looking institutional.
Applying eggshell requires a higher level of surface preparation and application care than standard wall paint. The finish is less forgiving of imperfections, meaning the preparation stage was as important as the decoration itself.
Surfaces were prepared thoroughly before any paint was applied - filling, sanding and priming where needed to ensure the eggshell finish would go on cleanly and adhere correctly. The team worked through the communal areas methodically, applying the specified acrylic eggshell to walls and woodwork and ensuring a consistent, professional finish throughout.
Work was planned and delivered to minimise disruption to the school's day-to-day operation, completing on time and within budget.
The project was delivered on time and on budget - and the quality of the work spoke for itself. Springwell School has re-booked annually for the past five years, returning each year for ongoing maintenance and redecoration as the building requires it. That kind of long-term relationship is not built on price alone: it reflects consistent quality, reliability, and a genuine understanding of what the client needs. For a specialist setting like Springwell, trust matters as much as the finish on the walls.
