At GME Group, we’re proud to roll up our sleeves and get involved in the unique and historic events that shape the communities we serve—none more iconic than the annual Coal Race. A true test of strength, spirit, and Yorkshire grit, the Coal Race is more than just a challenge—it’s a celebration of local heritage, identity, and resilience.
Each year, we proudly sponsor and take part in this unforgettable event, which sees participants carrying heavy sacks of coal through the streets in honour of the region’s coal-mining legacy. Our team doesn’t just show up—we train, we cheer, and we throw ourselves wholeheartedly into the tradition, helping to keep it alive for future generations.
But our involvement goes far beyond the race itself. Through our sponsorship, we’re able to contribute directly to the organisation of the event and the local causes it supports—from grassroots charities to community projects that make a real difference in people’s lives. The funds raised as part of the Coal Race go right back into the heart of Yorkshire, supporting those who need it most.
For GME, participating in the Coal Race is about honouring the past while investing in the future. It’s about community pride, physical challenge, and showing up for something bigger than ourselves. Whether we’re racing down the street with 20kg of coal on our backs or handing out water bottles and encouragement from the sidelines, we’re there to celebrate our region’s character—and to give back in a way that’s meaningful and memorable.
We're incredibly proud to be part of such a powerful tradition, and we look forward to many more years of sponsorship, participation, and muddy boots in support of Yorkshire’s Coal Race.
