GME were crowned champions of the 9th edition of the Rotary Club Dragon Boat Race held at Pugneys in Wakefield, the first time they have won the title.
It was the second year GME had entered a team, this year rowing for Levi Star Charity, captained by Managing Director Gavin Esberger, and after narrowly missing out on victory last year Gavin was focussed on the top prize.
This years’ event has been summed up as the best ever with 40 teams taking part in over 7 hours of racing, with over 5000 people going to the event. The event also saw over £40,000 raised for an array of different charities across the Wakefield area.
Guests of honour this year were, the Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Kevin Barker and the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Christine Iredale and her Consort Robert, together with Robert Morphet, the Rotary District Governor of Yorkshire who presented the prizes and trophies to the winning teams.
After winning all their heats, GME beat The Musical Mariners and Stuarts Big Kiss (last years winners) in the final.
