One of our favourite projects here at GME, has been our work carried out at Cartwright Hall, Bradford. We were invited to redecorate some of the art rooms in the hall, which are being used to display various artists work. One of the most renowned galleries will open in July 2017, which our contractors here at GME had the pleasure of painting – for artist David Hockney.
GME were contracted to ensure that the gallery walls were all painted to a high standard. The work carried out included the walls of the gallery and all woodwork. We’ve also been invited back to carry out similar work to the other galleries, which will launch later in the year presenting other artists works.
Cartwright Hall is a civic art gallery, which is based in Bradford. Built on the former site of Manningham Hall, and is named after the inventor of the power loom, Edmund Cartwright. The hall opened in 1904 and displayed various artworks which had been loaned from other galleries and private collections, until it was able to purchase a more permanent collection after raising money by the 1904 Bradford Exhibition.
David Hockney, born in Bradford has been chosen to be showcased in the gallery in its new opening. Hockney has been a renowned artist around the world for many years, and is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. Hockney was educated at Bradford College of Art before progressing to the Royal College of Art. Upon his completion of his time at the Royal College of Art, the artist moved to Los Angeles to progress as an artist. His career grew in the 1960’s, particularly as he started to explore the pop-art movement.
We are delighted to have the chance to work on the gallery which will show Hockney’s work, to see the dates and any more information, click here.
