Doncaster Royal Infirmary

The Project

Doncaster Royal Infirmary is a district general hospital operated by the NHS. With 800 beds as well as an accident and emergency unit, the hospital deals with hundreds of thousands of patients every year.

The scheme was an 8-week project, which involved redecorating the hospital and children’s ward. GME refurbished waiting areas, wards, doctors surgeries, corridors, refectories and staff areas within the hospital.

Our Approach

GME took care to create and maintain a sanitary environment throughout the project, using clean and safe work practices when working on site, and planning our workflow to minimise disruption in this busy hospital. Antibacterial paint was used when painting key rooms such as clinics and slush rooms.

However we wanted the décor to create a positive and reassuring atmosphere for patients, especially in the children’s ward. To this end, we made fun and funky images using graphic strips, and decorated several areas with wallpaper to create feature walls.
